An ophthalmic exam includes a thorough evaluation of the structure and function of your pet's eyes and visual system. If problems are identified, options and recommendations can be made which may include medical and/or surgical procedures to help restore your animal's health and/or improve the quality of your pet's life.
Your regular veterinarian can identify and treat most routine eye problems. Depending on the nature of the condition, your veterinarian may consult with a specialist in animal eye care or refer you directly to a veterinary ophthalmologist. The general practitioner and the specialist will work together to assure that your animal's needs are met. Unfortunately, our pets cannot always tell us if they are experiencing problems. If you observe evidence of loss of sight or symptoms of eye disorders, prompt medical attention is advisable. Timely medical attention can lessen the affects of disease and injury on your pet, reduce their discomfort, shorten medical treatment, and save you unnecessary expense.

A CERF exam is a genetic eye screen designed by the Canine Eye Registration Foundation. The organization was established by a group of purebred owners and breeders as a way to recognize and help eliminate inheritable eye disease in purebred dogs. For more information please refer to their main website: http://www.vmdb.org/cerf.html
We are normally scheduling our CERF appointments 2-5 weeks in advance depending on the number of dogs. It is best to call as soon as possible in order to find a time that is convenient for your schedule.
We prefer that a dog be at least 8 weeks old before the test is performed.
Surgery is performed weekly on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. An estimated cost will be provided when a procedure is recommended and/or scheduled. Surgery cannot be scheduled for a patient that we have not seen, so all new patients must have an initial exam prior to scheduling any surgical procedures.
We do not offer over night care. All of our surgeries are out patient procedures. All surgery patients should check in by 8:00 on the morning of their surgery, and they are usually discharged early to mid afternoon that same day. Most procedures will require a post-op exam after a few weeks, however select procedures including Cataract or Lens Removal surgery require a 24 hour recheck.

Please be sure any tests, cultures, or blood work that has been requested by our clinic is completed and the results are sent to our office within one day of the scheduled surgery date. Also, be sure to look over the Pre-Surgical Instructions a few days before surgery and let us know if there are any questions.
